User Manual
This guide will walk you through each step of using the GrowWise Fertilizer Calculator to generate a precise application plan.
Step 1: Fertilizer Analysis
Locate the three numbers on your fertilizer bag. These are the N-P-K values, which represent the percentage of each nutrient in the bag.
Nitrogen (N %): Enter the first number.
Phosphorus (P₂O₅ %): Enter the second number.
Potassium (K₂O %): Enter the third number.
For example, a bag labeled "10-10-10" means you should enter 10 for N, 10 for P, and 10 for K.
Step 2: Soil Test Goal
This section requires information from a recent soil test report. This report tells you how much of each nutrient your soil needs.
Recommendation Unit: Choose the unit your soil test uses—either pounds per 1000 square feet (lbs / 1000 sq ft) or pounds per acre (lbs / acre).
Nutrient Amounts (lbs): Enter the recommended pounds of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P₂O₅), and/or Potassium (K₂O) you need to apply. You only need to enter a value for the main nutrient you are targeting. The calculator uses this "driving nutrient" to determine the application rate.
Step 3: Your Treatment Area
You can input your area size in two ways:
1. Manual Entry: If you already know the size of your lawn or garden, enter the value in 'Area Size' and select the correct unit (Square Feet or Acres).
2. Shape Calculator: If you need to calculate the area, click 'Or, Calculate Area from a Shape →'. Select the shape that best matches your area (Rectangle, Triangle, etc.) and enter the required dimensions in feet. The tool will automatically calculate the square footage and populate the 'Area Size' field for you.
Calculation & Results
Click the 'Calculate My Plan' button. The results will show:
Nutrients Applied: The actual amount of N, P, and K that will be applied per your recommendation unit (e.g., per 1000 sq ft).
Application Rate: How many pounds of your specific fertilizer product to apply per the recommendation unit.
Total Fertilizer Needed: The total amount of fertilizer product (in pounds) required to cover your entire treatment area.
